The College for Life Sciences (CfLS) is a Fellowship program of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin. The Wissenschaftskolleg ensures the greatest possible protection of personal data, in accordance with the Bundesdatenschutz- und Telemediengesetz (German Federal Data Protection Act and the German Telemedia Act).
Applicants’ personal data are collected and processed solely to the extent described in this data protection declaration.
Purpose of the data collection / Obligation to provide data / Access to personal data / Transmission of data
Your personal application data is collected and processed solely for the purpose of awarding the CfLS Fellowships for which you have applied. We need the data to contact you and to assess your abilities and qualifications in relation to your application. The provision of personal data is required to make the selection process legally valid. If relevant personal data are missing in the application documents, your application may not be considered.
In the course of your online application, we will collect and process your following personal data:
- Family name, first name
- Telephone number
- E-Mail address
- Application documents (application, project description, CV, publication list)
Application documents (application, project description, CV, publication list, declaration of agreement from the clinic management if applicable)
The following persons have access to your data: the responsible Scientific Committee of the CfLS, external evaluators if applicable, responsible staff members of the Wissenschaftskolleg.
Beyond that, your application data will not be used by or transmitted to third parties.
Duration of data storage / Deletion of data
If your application is successful, we will secure and archive your application documents on internal servers of the Wissenschaftskolleg. They will then no longer be accessibleonline. In this case, your personal data will be included in our internal database. You will receive separate information on this.
If your application is not accepted, then three months after sending our rejection we will completely and finally delete your application data and all data and documents related to the selection process.
In any case, your application platform account (e-mail address and password) will be completely and finally deleted after the completion of the respective application process.
We have taken extensive technical and organizational measures to protect the data collected in the context of your application and the documents you submitted from manipulation and unauthorized access. In particular, the transmission of your online application is encrypted in accordance with the recognized state of the technology.
When you log onto the Wissenschaftskolleg’s CfLS online application platform, small text files called cookies will be deposited in your browser.
We use these special session cookies so that you remain logged onto our website for the duration of your browser session. When you close your browser, these cookies are erased.
You can set your browser so that it informs you whenever cookies are to be emplaced and you can decide whether to accept them or to exclude the acceptance of cookies in certain cases or in general. Browsers differ in the way they administer cookie settings. The help menu of your browser will explain how you can change your cookie settings.
Avoiding and solving technical problems
When you visit the Wissenschaftskolleg’s CfLS application platform, your browser automatically sends information to the Wissenschaftskolleg’s web server. This information is saved in a log file, stored there for a period of 2 months, and then deleted. We need and process this information solely to enable and ensure a smooth connection and to solve any technical problems. The data involved are:
- Date and time of the visit
- browser type and version
- Operating system
- URL of the websites visited earlier, if they are linked to us
- Requested domain
- Domain name of the requesting Internet service provider
- Report of successful data access
- Search term if a search machine is used
You have the following rights:
- in accordance with Art. 15 DSGVO, to demand information from us about the personal data we have processed;
- in accordance with Art. 16 DSGVO, to demand the prompt correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data we have stored on you;
- in accordance with Art. 17 DSGVO, to demand the erasure of the personal data we have stored on you;
- in accordance with Art. 18 DSGVO, to demand the limitation of the processing of your personal data;
- in accordance with Art. 20 DSGVO, to demand receipt, in a structured, customary, and machine-readable format, of the personal data that you have presented us or that it be transmitted to another responsible party;
- in accordance with Art. 77 DSGVO, to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
